Southport Bijou Cinema CIC is a volunteer-led and not-for-profit Community Interest Company.
Welcome to the Southport Bijou Cinema, arriving in October 2019!
The Southport Bijou Cinema is a new Community Interest Company (CIC), designed to bring cinema to you: the community. Matinees and evening films include classics old and new, independent films not shown at multiplexes, and others from around the world. The Bijou is for the community, so any and all suggestions are welcomed.
On the accessible ground floor is a friendly cafe/bar, serving a range of bottled lagers and ales and cocktails, as well as assorted soft and hot drinks, all before and after the film screenings. The Cinema itself has a high-power laser-light projector and surround-sound, delivering an unmissable viewing experience. New accessible unisex toilets are also open for customers on this floor.
On the first floor are two rooms, which are unfortunately not accessible by lift. The Lounge has comfortable sofas and easy chairs suitable for music, drama and pop-up cinema. Adjacent to this is our Media Room, complete with a HD TV and ideal for discussion groups and conference meetings. Refurbished male and female toilets are open for customers on this floor.
The Bijou Cinema is situated in a restored 1894 building at 8 Post Office Avenue, which was once the Post Office Manager’s House. We can’t wait to open and meet you all!
We’re just off Lord Street with daily bus routes. Walk down the narrow Post Office Avenue almost next to Sainsbury’s Store. The railway station is 5 minutes walk away.
In daytime, street parking is expensive and has few large car parks but you can use the Park & Ride service for £2 return. The PR1 bus travels on Lord Street and the last bus back to the Esplanade is 6.20pm.
In the evening from 6pm there’s free street parking and Sainsbury’s car park barriers are up.
You can drop off friends outside the Bijou, turning off Lord Street using the one-way road at Sainsbury’s entrance and then left again onto Post Office Avenue.
