We love film at the Bijou, and we’re here to bring cinema to you: the community. Matinees and evening films include classics old and new, independent films not shown at multiplexes, and dynamic world cinema. Please do write your Film and Arts Events requests on the chalkboard in the Cafe/Bar, as we listen to all recommendations for future programming!

On the accessible ground floor is a friendly Cafe/Bar/Box Office, with a chic-style Fracino Retro Coffee Machine. We also sell a range of bottled lagers, ales and wines, as well as assorted soft drinks, all before and after the film screenings. We welcome well-behaved dogs in our Cafe/Bar, too! New accessible unisex toilets are open for Bijou customers, and for accessible assistance into the building itself, please press the front door bell.

Adjacent to the Cafe/Bar is the Cinema – a raked auditorium with comfortable seats and an Optoma 8000-lumens projector, plus 5.1 Surround Sound speakers to present an immersive cinematic experience. There are 2 wheelchairs spaces available at the front, as well as an induction loop system installed.

On the first floor, not accessible by lift, is The Lounge, an open space for events and parties! It has a new multi-lighting systtem with comfortable sofas and easy chairs. Also upstairs is the Media Room for talks, films, or to just chill-out and watch the HDTV. Nearby are refurbished male and female toilets for Bijou customers.

The Bijou is a refurbished 1894 house. If you’re cycling, you can park in the alley. If you’re walking, the train station is 5 minutes away and buses go along Lord Street. If you’re driving, you can drop off friends outside the Bijou (turn left from Lord Street to St. George’s Place – go past Sainsbury’s then take the first left again). For matinees, it’s easy to use the Park and Ride service as the PR1 bus goes down Lord Street. After 6PM, street parking is free.

Whether you are a movie fan or you just fancy a night out with a bit of a difference, this little cinema is great. Have a drink in the bar before hand( very generous measures) and then enjoy a film in the cinema room. Great selection of old and new films. I’ll definitely be going again.
Superb experience, a real little gem tucked away in a side street off Lord street. Fabulous venue, owners/staff really lovely and genuine people. Well stocked bar with good vibe. Cafe available, although not experienced. If you love non-mainstream movies and great atmosphere (and add recommendations for future movies), this is right up your street. A mix between the best of FACT and the Unity. Become a Bijou friend and support this not for profit community theatre, which is far cooler than it sounds!
We held our son’s joint 8th birthday party here for 26 children in total! The place is so lovely, recently decorated and spotlessly clean. Cinema is really great, with big screen and excellent sound. Really comfy seats and can hold up to 75 people. Plenty of space to then have party food afterwards. Cute little bar to serve drinks and cinema snacks. Can’t recommend enough. Really helpful staff, we will definitely be back!! What a lovely independent business...lucky to have this venue in Southport.
